Roundtable Discussion: Assessment of the internal and external control mechanisms in the State Police

In the framework of the regional project ” Western Balkan Pulse for Police Integrity and Trust (POINTPULSE)”, IDM organised the Roundtable Discussion: “Assessment of Internal and External Control Mechanisms in the State Police” on December 12th, 2017. POINTPULSE, is a network of seven CSOs in the WB, with the goal to monitor the state of police integrity in law enforcement agencies and advocate for policy changes for strengthening police integrity.

During this activity, the findings and recommendations on the effectiveness of the internal and external control mechanisms for 2017 were discussed based on the assessment of common indicators developed for the POINTPULSE Police Integrity Assessment report.

The following questions were discussed at the event:

  • How operative are police internal control mechanisms?
  • What is the impact of parliamentary oversight in building police integrity?
  • How effective are independent regulatory institutions in overseeing the policing?
  • What can be done in order to improve police internal control and oversight?

This panel discussion welcomed the feedback and contribution of representatives of the State Police, the People’s Advocate, the Supreme State Audit, the Commissioner for the Information and Protection of Personal Data, representatives of civil society, media and  international community.

This event was organized in the framework of the project “Western Balkans Pulse for Police Integrity and Trust: POINTPULSE”, supported by the European Union through the Civil Society Facility programme and it is implemented by Analytica (Macedonia), Centre for Security Studies (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Institute Alternative (Montenegro), Institute for Democracy and Mediation (Albania), and Kosovar Centre for Security Studies, Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (Serbia).
