Challenges of pre-university education in the peripheral rural areas of Albania

Education is a key direction for the social and economic development of a country. However, in the peripheral rural areas of Albania, pre-university education faces major challenges related to the quality of teaching, school infrastructure and student achievement.

Rural areas face low enrollments in basic education, contributing to the decline in the number of graduates. Factors such as lack of schools, lack of funding and migration have contributed to this problem. A good part of the students in these areas continue to leave school or even finish it without mastering the basic competencies.

Equity is also a concern, with persistent disparities in educational opportunities and outcomes due to remote or isolated geographic regions. This limits the employment and life chances of many young people and risks hindering national development.
