23 September 2022, Tirana – Following the series of scheduled hearings with members of parliamentary committees, IDM coordinated and supported the hearing on women’s economic empowerment and property rights in rural areas. Through this hearing, members of the Alliance of Women Parliamentarians and other interested actors had the opportunity to be informed and discuss the need to guarantee women’s property rights in rural areas and concrete legal interventions in this regard.
In this hearing, MP Mrs. Luljeta Bozo noted that the issues and recommendations presented as very crucial, especially those related to property rights. She added that “this is the right momentum to solve this issue since the State Cadastre Agency will begin registering agricultural-rural properties so that they need to ensure that women are entitled to the property or their consent is obtained before registration”. While in her speech, MP Mrs. Pranvera Resulaj, emphasized that this issue and that of the support schemes for rural women entrepreneurs will be on the agenda of the Alliance and the Subcommittee for Gender Equality.
The recommendations of experts and interest groups focused on completing the process of registering ownership titles on agricultural land, including all members of the agricultural family in the registration certificate, and encouraging women to apply for economic support schemes.
