The Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM), with the support of the Embassy of United States in Albania, is organizing the National Conference: Promoting “School as Community Center” as a multi- stakeholder approach for resilient communities.
Over the past five years, IDM has successfully implemented the multi-stakeholder “School as Community Centre” model in 16 high schools across Albania. Additionally, other high schools in Peqin, Vora, Shijak, and Bilisht, joined the activities and initiating youth local initiatives.
In request of the General Directorate of Pre-University Education, IDM shared the SCC experience in 9 regional meetings with 140 high schools in 61 municipalities, pursuing a nationwide coverage of the approach.
The attendants confirmed interest in the SCC approach, highlighting the need for strengthening cooperation between schools and state institutions at a local level.
This conference will enhance the opportunities to foster cooperation between local stakeholders and the youth in efforts to build sustainable and resilient communities against violent extremism.
The youth will be an integral part of the conference, demonstrating their achievements in implementing the SCC action plan, and the impact in the community through local initiatives and networking activities.
Representatives from local institutions, including schools, will showcase the results and impact of the SCC model in the local communities. On the other side, the SCC approach has enabled schools to become promoters of social developments and democratic values.
Additionally, this conference comes as an opportunity to extend the collaboration and launch the “School Community Center” approach in six new municipalities and high schools of the country – Vau i Dejes, Peshkopi, Pogradec, Roskovec, Gjirokaster, Shkoze, Tirane.
