Rural Development as a Cross-Sectoral Approach and Implications for Albania

Round Table, Tirana 29th June 2010

The Department of Local Governance and Integrated Development of IDM, organized in Tirana, on the 29th June 2010 the Round Table “Rural Development as a Cross-Sectoral Approach and Implications for Albania”. The event was made possible through the financial support of Think Tank Fund, Program of Open Society Foundations Network (Budapest, Hungary).
The purpose of this round table was to bring awareness at the institutional level on the importance of a multi-dimensional and cross-sectoral approach towards rural development and the work in network.

Present in this round table were officials from line ministries, experts of civil society, representatives from business associations, local and international development agencies, representatives from the University of Kamza, and relevant interest groups. During the round table, IDM’s Policy Brief findings were introduced.

LGID staff as well as two associate experts from the Agricultural University of Tirana elaborated the policy brief.

Part of the follow-up discussions was also Mr. Jemin Gjana , Chair of the Parliamentary Commission on Productive Activity and Environment, and former Minister of Agriculture who offered a thorough insight of rural development implications for Albania. This round table is part of the constant efforts of LGID to bring rural development to the attention of public and private authorities with the aim of preparing the country for future reforms related to EU integration processes.
