Institute for Democracy and Mediation and the Geneva Center for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) are holding a panel discussion in Tirana on ‘’Cybersecurity challenges and their impact on human rights’’, on November 23rd, 10:30 am.
IDM will present the findings of the study ‘’Bridging the Gap Between Cyber Policy Fragmentation and Human Rights’’ which addresses cybersecurity challenges related to privacy, freedom of expression, protection from discrimination and freedom of assembly. The study was conducted during December 2021 – May 2022 and maps the main challenges and opportunities in this field, offers recommendations for public and non-public actors and identifies areas for advocacy and research.
Some of the challenges identified in the study in relation to data protection, the need for strengthening security measures, risk assessments and transparency in the governance of the cybersecurity sector, were also brought to surface by the recent cyber-attacks against the Albanian government.
In this context, the panel of experts will also address the management of cyber-attacks and the lessons learned.
The working language of the panel is Albanian, but simultaneous translation to English will be available.
