In light of the Digital Services Act (DSA) being implemented in the European Union, and its anticipated adoption in the Western Balkans, IDM has joined a regional initiative of civil society organizations aimed at enhancing the protection of digital rights through a collaborative advocacy strategy.
As a first step, we are releasing our joint advocacy position on interventions related to DSA alignment in the region. This position emphasizes enabling approaches and priority interventions that uphold the rule of law, protect media freedom, and safeguard human rights. Taking into account contextual sensitivities, it also identifies critical red lines to ensure that digital service reforms do not undermine fundamental freedoms.
You can read the advocacy position in English and Albanian.
This initiative is led by Partners for Democratic Change Serbia and is implemented by the Institute for Democracy and Mediation (Albania), Metamorphosis Foundation (North Macedonia), NVO 35 mm (Montenegro), Women in Tech (Kosovo), and Zasto Ne? (Bosnia and Herzegovina), with the support of Open Society Foundations Western Balkans.
