Workshop on Local Development Agencies and Women Economic Empowerment in Shkodra and Lezha

The Institute for Democracy and Mediation, Department for Local Governance and Integrated Development organised the workshop “Local Development Agencies and Women Economic Empowerment in Shkodra and Lezha” on 24 September 2014 in Lezha in the framework of the project “Empowering Women Economic Growth in Shkodra and Lezha Regions through Women Economic Clusters Capacity Building Development” funded by Regional Development Programme Northern Albania. 

Publications of Roma/Egyptian Community Development Plans

Upon a successful strategic planning methodology, the Institute for Democracy and Mediation in partnership with UNDP/SSIREC Project published:

  • Inter-Local Roma/Egyptian Community Development Plan of Municipality of Berat and Commune of Otllak,
  • Inter-Local Roma/Egyptian Community Development Plan of Municipality of Vlora and Commune of Novosela,
  • Roma/Egyptian Local Community development Plan of Municipality of Korca,
  • Egyptian Community Development Plan of Commune of Bucimas.

The plans were published and disseminated to the respective local authorities, civil society organizations, and representatives of the Roma and Egyptian community in these local government units.

Consultative Workshops on Roma/Egyptian Community Development Plans

Institute for Democracy and Mediation in partnership with UNDP/SSIREC Project organized the consultative workshops to discuss the drafted plans, namely:

  • Inter-Local Roma/Egyptian Community Development Plan of Municipality of Berat and Commune of Otllak,
  • Inter-Local Roma/Egyptian Community Development Plan of Municipality of Vlora and Commune of Novosela,
  • Roma/Egyptian Local Community development Plan of Municipality of Korça,
  • Egyptian Community Development Plan of Commune of Buçimas.

These consultative workshops aimed to publicly discuss on the draft versions of the plans with the members of the working group and high representatives of local authorities involved in the development of these plans.

Monitoring and Assessment of the Decentralization Process in Albania

The Department for Local Governance and Integrated Development of the Institute for Democracy and Mediation organized the kickoff event of the “Monitoring and Assessment of the Decentralization Process in Albania” Project funded by Swiss Development Cooperation. The activity was organized at Rogner Hotel in Tirana on 25 July 2014, 10.00 a.m.

The kickoff event aimed at launching the project to relevant decentralization stakeholders in Albania, presenting and consulting the monitoring approach and methodology and ensuring a continuous commitment with public and civic decentralization constituents and interest groups. The event was targeted to representatives of the Working Group of the Decentralization Strategy 2014-2020, members of Parliament, associations of local authorities, civil society organizations, and donor agencies in Tirana.

 

Working Together: Benefits and Challenges

Institute for Democracy and Mediation organized two seminars “Working Together: Benefits and Challenges” in Shkodra on 19 June 2014 and Lezha on 20 June 2014 in the framework of the project “Empowering Women Economic Growth in Shkodra and Lezha Regions through Women Economic Clusters Capacity Building Development” funded by Regional Development Programme Northern Albania. These activities aimed to raise the awareness and strengthen the individual capacities of women entrepreneurs in the economic clustering approach and aggregation of production. Issues on potentials of economic clusters and advantages for women economic growth in Shkodra region were discussed during the seminars.

Economic Clusters as Instruments for Women Economic Growth in Shkodra and Lezha Regions

Institute for Democracy and Mediation organized the workshops “Economic Clusters as Instruments for Women Economic Growth in Shkodra and Lezha Regions” on 08 July 2014 in Shkodra and 09 July 2014 in Lezha. These activities were organised in the framework of the project “Empowering Women Economic Growth in Shkodra and Lezha Regions through Women Economic Clusters Capacity Building Development” funded by Regional Development Programme Northern Albania. These workshops aimed to strengthen the capacities of public managers and women associated interested organizations on economic clustering approach.

Empowering Women through Economic Cluster Development - National Conference

Institute for Democracy and Mediation with the support of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in Tirana (UN Women) organized the national conference "Empowering Women through Economic Cluster Building" on May 28, 2014 at Tirana International Hotel. This conference aimed to share the experience of IDM project in Dibra region and encourage the national debate on women's empowerment through economic cluster development.

“Marketing – The techniques for Setting Prices, Promotion and Sales” and “Establishment of a Functional Accounting System”

Building case studies for marketing decisions and keeping simple accounting books aimed to increase the group’s skills in these functional areas of a business. Simulation of sales and purchases, storage, delivery, billing, payment, etc., was conducted by using forms approved by the tax administration. It was aimed to familiarize the group members with the procedures of the required documentation when processing financial legal obligations and with the use of this financial information for the internal management of the enterprise with several partners.

Strategic Plan of the Economic Cluster in Dibra Region

The Institute for Democracy and Mediation in close partnership with the local stakeholders of the women economic cluster in Dibra region have finalized the design of the Strategic Plan. Upon an analysis of each group member and group profile, the inclusive process involved discussions on the strategic options in the framework of “constructing a sustainable living for women and their family through farm development, promotion of typical products, encouragement of sustainable links with local and national markets, by sharing together the goods of the land, the heritage of the region, and the values of cooperation and respect, as the vision of the group. The cluster members worked on determining the mission, strategic objectives and deciding upon the best option of constructing a multifunctional warehouse as the best choice for this group.

Women Economic Cluster Business Plan

The business plan is the output of a long process of discussions, research and analysis conducted with the participation of group members. This plan is founded on the development of an entrepreneurship that improves competitiveness of group members’ farms, reduces processing costs, and significantly improves access to market for the products. The investment plan focuses in the construction of a multifunctional warehouse that will address the members’ needs for conservation and processing of some of their major products.The warehouse is planned to be equipped with some simple devices for the processing of aromatic-medicinal plants and packaging of fruits. This facility is also planned to be equipped with a refrigerating room for the cold conservation of apples, cherries, and other fruits.
