Building a strong civil society is one of the columns of democracy in its new age understanding. This is especially important for countries in transition like Macedonia and Albania because of incomplete social mechanisms, institutional and non-institutional relations, undeveloped political culture and a big number of inherited influences from the time when the state regulated social life.

Initiating, building and then strengthening CSOs is a base for independent civic awareness.

This project aims to contribute towards strengthening the role of CSOs in the sustainable development of the cross-border region between Albania and Macedonia by stimulating the practice of exchange of experiences, communication, coordination, cooperation and partnership building among CSOs on both sides of the border.

Some of the main activities of the project include Partnership and Networking Meetings; Capacity Building for Partnership and Networking and Civil Society Forums;

This project is being implemented by the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCIC) as lead applicant, the Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) as lead on the Albanian side and the local organisation Deshat from Debar.
