An Assessment of the role of the independent oversight bodies in security sector reform in Albania

Project Description:

The main objective of this project is to identify and assess the impact of the performance of key independent oversight bodies (IOB) and their influence on the transparency and accountability of the security sectors institutions. More specifically, it aims to:

  • identify the weaknesses and strengths of the performance of IOB-s in relation to oversight of the security sector institutions
  • assess the overall capacities and expertise that impact the functionality of these bodies
  • raise awareness on the problems concerning legal frameworks aspects that regulate their functions and relations with the legislative power and other security sector institutions
  • offer viable recommendations to address the major shortcomings thus, improving the whole process
